Treatment

Physical treatment

· Physical therapy, which is started quickly to improve the patient's strength, coordination, and mobility, preventing muscle atrophy. Stretching, strengthening, and gait exercises are also worked on to improve functional independence.

· Occupational therapy helps the patient regain skills to perform daily activities, such as dressing or eating, through adaptive techniques or assistive devices.

· If muscle weakness affects breathing, respiratory therapy may be needed to strengthen the respiratory muscles, and in severe cases, the patient may require mechanical ventilation.

Medicinal treatment

· Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) to reduce inflammation and immune response, being most effective in the early stages.

· If necessary, plasmapheresis is used to remove harmful antibodies. Pain relievers and medications such as gabapentin are given for neuropathic pain.

·In severe cases, blood thinners are used to prevent blood clots and nutritional support is offered if there are difficulties eating or swallowing. Corticosteroids are not recommended as they can worsen the condition.
